Luxury retailer Michael Kors is expanding its beauty line. Get a sneak peek of the label's project.
Michael Kors adds a beauty range to his to do list. The busy designer analyzed the beauty habits of the important women in his life, his mother - a woman who appreciates natural makeup looks and his grandmother who loved luxurious accents in order to understand what best defines sexiness and what women really need as far as fragrance and color are concerned.
The designer told WWD the way these thought processes influenced his new line: "What defines what sexy is?’ I thought about someone that was really full of confidence — if her skirt unwrapped when she sat? Not a problem. So, I think those three things — sexy, sporty and glam — have always been the DNA of Michael Kors, and in a strange way, the Michael Kors woman really is all three of those things — it’s just that she feels more strongly about one of them at certain given times. So I asked myself, how can we express that both with color and with fragrance?”
The answer as to what wraps up the new Michael Kors makeup and fragrance line wasn't an easy, straight-forward one. In fact, the three things identified by the designer as the most important ones give the name of three distinct collections: Sexy, Sporty and Glam each with a distinct scent.
The Michael Kors color cosmetics lines will consist of: sexy Lip Lacquer and Lip Luster tones which will retail for $24 a piece, two nail polishes for each range in subtle and bold tones depending on the concept evoked.
The Michael Kors beauty line additions also include several products designed to give you the perfect sunkissed look. The new Bronze Powder priced around $50 comes in three versions: Glow, intended to add light to skin; Flush, a shimmery tan, and Beam, a deep coppery glow. For easier application a $45 Bronze Powder Brush will also be offered. Fans of the sunkissed look might also be interested in the following products: Liquid Self Tanner, $32 for 5 oz.; After Sun Gelee, $32 for 5 oz., and After Sun Lip Balm, $28 for 0.12 oz. The makeup and body care offerings from the luxury retailer also include the following products: Indulgent Body Creme, $60 for 5.9 oz.; Liquid Shimmer Dry Oil, $60 for 3.2 oz., and Shimmer Bath Beads, $45 for 3.2 oz.
As for the new Michael Kors fragrances, expect freshness and novelty. The Michael Kors Sporty Citrus perfume has top notes of orange and mandarin, a heart of orange flower and moss base notes. The next two scents are defined by floral notes. The Michael Kors Sexy Amber fragrance has notes of amber and sandalwood notes, while the Michael Kors Glam Jasmine has defining notes of jasmine, cassius and sandalwood. The pricing for the scent will be as follows: $50 each for 1 oz.; $75 apiece for 1.7 oz., and $95 for 3.4 oz.
The new Michael Kors color line and fragrances will be retailing exclusively at Macy's in the first year. The ads for the new line which will feature Karmen Pedaru will break out in September.
